New Baby Splurges!

I have totally become one of those pregnant ladies who only posts about the new baby.  Sorry!  But, really, new baby stuff is just so cute.

I feel like I haven't really nested with this baby.  For a while, I just really didn't feel the urge.  But at about the 30 week mark, the nesting kicked in.  Unfortunately, it kicked in right before the move.  I did go through and wash all of Jack's newborn, 3 month, and 6 month clothes (making sure to get the stains out).  Now I am ready to unpack everything next week and start getting it ready!

Even though I have moments of being sad that this baby isn't a girl (bows, bonnets, bishop dresses!), from the beginning I really did hope for another boy.  Part of that is because I think it will be fun, albeit crazy, to have two little wild men.  And hopefully they will fulfill their wrestling instincts on each other, rather than me.  But another part is because Jack has a great little wardrobe, and I am excited (as is my wallet) to have another baby to wear it all again!

Besides clothes, we really do have most of the other necessities too.  I think I have talked myself out of even buying (at least at first) a double stroller.  I did buy Jack's swing off of craigslist and then I sold it when we were done.  So I might need to get another one of those.  But I kept everything else (and lugged it all up to PA!), so we are good.

Which means everything else is fun!  Here are a few things I have either received or I have my eye on:

Zutano for Aden + Anais

I have loved Zutano for several years.  When Jack was a newborn, Bech and I became obsessed with Aden + Anais swaddle blankets.  Seriously, if you are new mom, get some.  They are amazing.

My two favorites joined forces and released a line together.

Seriously, I can't even handle it.  So cute!

We have received the swaddling blankets and washcloths, and I am going to buy the bibs.  I love the colors, and I know that I will love using all of these things!

Thirsties Duo Wrap

One of the great things about cloth diapering is that you can use your supplies through multiple kids.  And we have a great set of diapers.  We were able to get them on sale for 20 and 40% off (which never happens!).  I think we have 23 diapers, a mix of FuzziBunz and Bumgenius.

This time around, I wanted to add a little to our stash.  Partly because it would allow us to go longer between washing diapers (which is great in the early days!) and partly because I really wanted to try some prefolds and covers.

Jack was such a chunk, which meant we were able to use our one size diapers when he was about 3 weeks old.  But this little guy may not be as big (oh, who am I kidding?  he will probably be bigger!).  Prefolds and covers will allow us to start a little sooner with cloth.

How cute is this owl pattern?

I did some research and chose Thirsties Duo Wraps, with OzoCozy Prefolds.

I have two covers right now, a size 1 and size 2, and I am going to get one more in each size.  That gives me about 4 to 6 more changes in each size before I have to do laundry.

I know, some of y'all (okay MOST) are laughing at the thought that cloth diapers are a splurge.  But really, they are super cute and I would get by without these new ones, so that counts as splurge to me!

A Paty Gown

Do non-Southerners know about Paty gowns?  Or even non-Mississippians?

Paty gowns (and rompers and play sets) are these super soft, sweet baby outfits.  I adore them!  Jack had a newborn gown and two size 9 month rompers.  I am so excited about the new baby wearing them.

But this new baby has very few new outfits, so I wanted to get him something special just for him!

This is the one I have my eye on, a gray striped Paty with aqua trim.  Wouldn't his monogram look so sweet on it?

There is only one problem...I can only find this Paty in size newborn.  I would much rather get it in a 3 month, because this baby will probably be big, like Jack.  I am at work tracking it down!

32 Weeks

How Far Along:

I am 32 weeks!

 Baby Size:

The baby is 3.9 pounds and 19 inches, about the size of a head of lettuce.

Maternity Clothes:

Yes.  And I am a little worried that some of them may not fit me by the time I am 40 weeks!

Sleep:

This week has been good.  It helps that we have had some cooler nights here in PA.  And in a week, we will be in our new apartment, which has air conditioning!

Movement:

Yup, all of the time!

Best Moment This Week:

Hm...not sure?  This has been a crazy week, with lots of packing.  I am sure I will have a "best moment" next week, when I get to start setting up the boys room!

Food Cravings:

Green grapes, blow pops, and salt and vinegar chips.

Totally normal, right?

Seriously, though, I am just thankful it is not wings, like with Jack.  Because, gross.

Food Aversions:

Most savory things and most things meat.

What I Miss:

Not going to the bathroom every 5 minutes.

What I Am Looking Forward To:

Moving into our new apartment!  I really need some A/C stat.

Milestones:

8 weeks...AH!

Pregnancy Symptoms:

Oh, everything.  Not really, but it feels like it!

Gender:

A boy!

Weight Gain:

21 pounds.  Which is actually a pound less than last week.  I can thank the heartburn for that.

31 Weeks!

How Far Along:

I am 31 weeks and 2 days!

 Baby Size:

The baby is 3.2 pounds and 18 inches, about the size of a head of lettuce.

Maternity Clothes:

Yes.  And I am a little worried that some of them may not fit me by the time I am 40 weeks!

Sleep:

Not great, but I slept amazingly last night!

Movement:

Yup, all of the time!

Best Moment This Week:

My baby shower on Saturday!  Some sweet friends from church threw Baby Boy #2 a shower.  My mom and dad were in DC last weekend for a medical meeting, so my mom and my sister drove up for my shower.

How cute are these shirts?  I can NOT wait to have the boys wear these!

My sister has a better picture of these overalls on her instagram, but I can't figure out how to put it on my blog :(  Oh well...these are super cute Christmas overalls for the baby.

Everything was perfect and so fun.  Thank you again, Meredith, for hosting!

Food Cravings:

Cold, sweet, sour, and fruit.  And green grapes.  Trader Joe's sells little plastic cartons of green grapes for an amazing price.  Which is a good thing, because I have been going through like, oh, a box a day!

Which reminds me, is it possible to eat TOO many green grapes?

Food Aversions:

Most savory things and most things meat.

What I Miss:

Not feeling like an 80 year old in the morning!

What I Am Looking Forward To:

2 months until this baby comes!  I am looking forward to doing the whole newborn stage again.  I know some people don't love that stage, but it was really fun last time.  Exhausting, but fun.

Milestones:

Less than 2 months left.

Pregnancy Symptoms:

Heartburn...ughhh!

Also, I want to drink tons of cold water (and I need to, because it's really hot outside and I don't want to get dehydrated), but then all I do is go to the bathroom.

Gender:

A boy!

Weight Gain:

22 pounds

This week...

Honestly, except for our trip to Hershey this past Tuesday, Jack and I have been homebodies this week.  But, I feel like I have also gotten a LOT done, so it has not been a waste!

Here's what we've been up to, plus a few random thoughts:

O     N     E

I have mentioned before, but we are moving into graduate housing at the end of this month.  There are a couple of reasons:  heating is included (y'all, heat up north, especially oil heat, is super expensive!), we will be in town, and Bech can get to his studio in 5 minutes).  But that means that I haven't been able to set up any baby stuff thus far.  It hasn't really bothered me yet, but it started to this week.  So I got all of the boxes of baby clothes out and washed them.

I was pretty bummed, though, to find a small amount of baby clothes with stains on them.  I know that I washed EVERY piece of clothing before I put them up.  But still, stains!

I found this recipe for a cleaner on Pinterest, and it WORKS!  There are maybe two items that still have stains, but every other piece of clothing is clean!

I have also started packing (plus we took our first load to our new apartment!).  I am trying to use this newfound "nesting" energy to get stuff done!

T     W     O

I really wanted a new pair of lounge-y PJ's for the hospital and home (right after the baby is born).  I think nightgowns are great, but I don't really feel comfortable being in public in one.  I had some Gap rewards money, so I just bought these two pieces:

I got the top and bottoms on sale.  I figure they will be comfortable, but I also won't feel too bare.

T     H     R     E     E

I mentioned last week that I ordered some new bronzer from Too Faced.  I also ordered some new blush.  For the past 6 or 7 years, I have stuck with Nars.  And it really is a great blush.  But I wanted to switch it up and get something new and fun.

I ordered the Sweetheart blush in Candy Glow, and it finally came in Wednesday (side note, has Amazon prime completely spoiled anyone else?  It took a week for this order to get here!!!  Where is my free 2 day shipping?!?).

I LOVE this blush.  It has just the right amount of sparkle in it.  Plus, the packaging is really fun.

F     O     U     R

This reminds me...I was talking to some friends the other day about splurges.  I have a couple:

Makeup

Not all makeup, just eye shadow, bronzer, and blush.  I buy cheap eyeliner, mascara, and foundation.  But I love having nice eyeshadow and blush.  And I go through it so slowly, that it is totally doable.  I usually get some for my birthday or Christmas and that is plenty!

Hand Soap

I love getting "smell good" hand soap.  Honestly, this is not too much of a splurge, because I get it on sale at Bath and Body Works.  But, I know that I could find cheaper soap at Wal-Mart or Target, so it counts.

Purses

I love having a nice purse.  This is funny to my mom, because, honestly, I am not too obsessed with brand names or having super nice clothes.  But I love to have a nice purse.

What about y'all?  What are your splurges?

F     I     V     E

I wouldn't really consider this accomplishing anything, but Bech and I have watched a bunch of Netflix movies this week.  On July 1st, Netflix added a bunch of new movies (and took some movies off).  Here's what we've seen so far:

Zodiac was eh.  It was super long and only halfway interesting.

I did NOT like Adventureland.  First of all, that guy from the Facebook movie only plays one sort of role.  The same is true for Kristen Stewart.  So just imagine those two roles in an 80's movie, with lots of cursing and drugs.  Yeah, not good.

I thought From Time to Time was fairly good.  The premise was a little strange, but it was written and directed by Julian Fellowes and Maggie Smith is in it.  How much more do you really need?

So basically, Bech and I wasted two nights on the first two movies.  We are in a movie slump!

So that's what we've been up to lately--getting baby stains out and watching dumb movies.  We are so wild and crazy...

30 Weeks!

How Far Along:

I am 30 weeks and 2 days!

 Baby Size:

The baby is 3.9 ounces (which seems big, but is apparently in the 56th percentile)...I know because of yesterday's ultrasound (see below).

Maternity Clothes:

Maxi dresses are ah-mazing.

Sleep:

The weather has cooled off just a tad bit, and that has helped some.  But it is still not great.

Movement:

All day, every day.

That's not totally true.  This child rests some times, but not at a lot!

Best Moment This Week:

Okay, this is kind of a long story to get to my good moment:

At our 20 week ultrasound, my placenta was pretty low.  So they scheduled me for a 28 week ultrasound to make sure that it had moved.  We got back from the South and went in for the 28 week ultrasound.  The placenta looked great.  But the ultrasound tech noticed an abnormality in the baby's brain.  The doctor tried to assure us that it could just be a mistaken reading, but that she was sending us on to a specialist in Hershey for another ultrasound and a consultation.

The consult was scheduled for 2 weeks later (yesterday).  So for 2 weeks, Bech and I have been trying to stay calm about this appointment.  I was doing okay until I googled the abnormality...that is always a bad idea.

Well yesterday, we headed to Hershey for our appointment.  The doctor came in after the ultrasound and told us that everything is normal!  By far, that was the best moment!

* I would like to add that I was sobered leaving that appointment.  Lots of parents go in and are told that there is in fact an abnormality.  While I am so thankful that nothing is wrong with our little boy, I am also heartbroken thinking about all of those other families. *

Food Cravings:

Cold, sweet, sour, and fruit.  Also, blow pops.  I love blow pops so much right now!

Food Aversions:

Most savory things and most things meat.

But my friend Meredith made some amazing beef the other night, plus I ate a steak at another friend's wedding.  So yay for some iron!

What I Miss:

Being comfortable.  I mean, I am not always uncomfortable.  But it is hard to find a spot sleeping or sitting that works.

What I Am Looking Forward To:

We move in 2 1/2 weeks, and our new place has air conditioning!!!

Milestones:

A normal ultrasound!

Pregnancy Symptoms:

Leg cramps, heart burn...

Gender:

A boy!

Weight Gain:

20 or 21 pounds.  And I'm at 30 weeks.  So even if I gain almost a pound a week for the rest of this pregnancy, I should be pretty good!

July Favorites

Y'all know I can't turn down an excuse to make a list.

Side note, Bech watched Say Anything the other day on Netflix.  I mentioned how one of the actresses was also on High Fidelity.  He said he has never seen it!  Seriously.  I was obsessed with that movie in high school.  John Cusack and list making all rolled into one movie?  Perfection.  I will be remedying this travesty soon.

Anyway, I'm linking up with the above blogs for my favorite July things:

O     N     E

I love Too Faced Snow Bunny Bronzer.  This is the perfect summer bronzer for those of us who are tan challenged.  I'm basically just reflecting the sun right now, I'm so white.

I have been using this from an old Too Faced palette of my little sisters, but I just ordered a full size one off of the Too Faced website.  I even got it for 20% off (try Pretty20 for a coupon code).

I've also used Pink Leopard, which is great for paler girls too.  No experience with their other bronzers, but I bet they are great too!

T     W     O

Sure, this is no Snowhaven snow cone.  But you know what?  It's a pretty good substitute.  And summer and being pregnant are both great excuses to eat Rita's!

T     H     R     E     E

Fresh Fruit!

Finally, I am craving something healthy.  There is so much fresh fruit in the grocery stores right now, and I am loving it.  I am eating it plain, with yogurt and granola, and in smoothies.  Smoothies are my favorite, because Jack loves them (he's pretty funny about texture and doesn't love to eat lots of fruit just plain).

F     O     U     R

Hart of Dixie

I know...this isn't necessarily July specific.  But I am just now really watching it.  And, since it's set in the sweltering South, it seems like a perfect summer show.

Y'all, I LOVE this show.  It is cute and silly--perfect for me right now!  Any other Hart of Dixie fans out there?

What are y'all loving this July?
